The Pekoe Trail has always been more than a walking route. It is a living canvas where many sectors come together to make an impact in Sri Lanka. Tourism, wellness, conservation, community development, education, and responsible business all find space on this 300 kilometer trail that threads through the heart of the Central Highlands.
Today, we are proud to take another step forward with the launch of our first licensed product series in collaboration with Frella. This collection introduces a specialist wellness range crafted for hikers, and marks the beginning of a new chapter for The Pekoe Trail and its growing ecosystem of Sri Lankan partners.

A Personal Connection to the Trail
For Frella, this collaboration carries a deeper meaning. Sudath is from Hali Ela, the area where Stage 18 of the Pekoe Trail begins or ends when the trail is walked in reverse. These are the landscapes he grew up with. Contributing to a national tourism asset that passes through his own home region is a powerful reminder of what The Pekoe Trail represents. It brings people back to their roots and gives them a chance to uplift the communities they once ran through as children.
How This Partnership Supports the Trail
The Pekoe Trail Organization operates as an independent, self sustaining nonprofit under a unique public private partnership model. We hold the stewardship of this national asset while also connecting the dots between the private sector, communities, government partners, and innovators.
Our mandate covers six core pillars. Stewardship, community empowerment, digital infrastructure, conservation support, experience development, and long term sustainability.
Proceeds from licensed merchandise such as the Frella range directly support these pillars. This allows TPTO to grow the trail responsibly, reduce dependency on donor funding, and reinvest in the communities that safeguard the landscapes hikers pass through.

The range will also be available through accommodations along the trail, selected tourism partners, and Frella’s own online store, creating shared value across the network of businesses that support the hiker experience.
Looking Ahead
This collaboration is only the beginning. Our vision is to grow The Pekoe Trail into a national platform that continues to bring together Sri Lankan brands, creators, researchers, conservationists, and communities. By doing so, we strengthen the economic and social impact of the trail while celebrating the diversity and talent found across the island.
We thank Frella and Sudath for joining hands with us on this journey and for contributing to the future of responsible and meaningful travel in Sri Lanka.
